If you have never visited historic Encinitas, and are planning a visit to the San Diego area, then make Encinitas one of your must-see venues when you arrive.
Encinitas offers something for everyone whether its miles of glorious beaches, or shopping in the town, you will not be disappointed. It is easy to see why Encinitas was named among the 20 best surf towns in the world by National Geographic, as it is located along six miles of superb Pacific coastline and still retains a thriving beach culture.
Shopping in Encinitas combines an eclectic blend of sophisticated and old-world charm. Restaurants, sidewalk cafes and specialty retail stores sit alongside the many surf stores and boutiques that are situated in the shopping district along historic Highway 101.
While you are shopping, don’t forget to check out the architecture in downtown Encinitas. The downtown shopping area is over 100 years old, and a fun place to wander – look for La Paloma Theatre, a historic Spanish Colonial Revival style movie theater that opened in 1928 and is still showing movies today, and almost next door is our open air market, the Encinitas Bazaar.
The Encinitas Bazaar is open every weekend, between 10am and 5pm, where you will find local merchants selling unique items from around the world, and vendors selling hand crafted products.
Before you leave the beaches and historic downtown, don’t forget to stop at the San Diego Botanical Gardens. These gardens are unique in that they have the largest display of bamboo in the world, and are the world’s leading grower of Christmas poinsettias.
With its beautiful weather, superb beaches, and world-class shopping and restaurants, who doesn’t love Encinitas?
